In our fast-paced world, stress and trauma often manifest in our bodies, leading to physical tension and emotional distress. Many people are unaware that our bodies possess a natural mechanism to release this built-up stress: shaking. Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (T.R.E.) leverage this inherent response, guiding individuals to unlock their body's potential for self-healing. Normalizing shaking as a stress-releasing practice can transform how we view and manage our stress, revealing a powerful tool that we were designed with to heal from within.
Shaking is a reflex and physiological response that occurs in humans after a stressful or traumatic event. Think of the last time you got so stressed, scared or angry that your hands or body started to shake. It serves as the body’s way of discharging excess energy and resetting the nervous system. Now think about how AMAZING and relaxed you feel after a good shoulder-shaking cry! THAT is the reflex that is being tapped into with T.R.E.
However, in our society, we often suppress this natural response, viewing it as a sign of weakness or instability. T.R.E. helps us embrace this shaking as a beneficial practice, allowing our bodies to return to a state of balance and calm. By understanding and normalizing this process, we can cultivate a healthier relationship with our stress responses.
The science behind T.R.E. is fascinating. When we experience stress or trauma, our bodies enter a state of fight, flight, or freeze, driven by the autonomic nervous system. This response is meant to protect us but can leave us with residual tension if not properly discharged. T.R.E. activates the body's natural tremoring mechanism through specific exercises, helping to release deep muscular patterns of stress and tension. By allowing these movements to occur, we facilitate the release of stored stress and tension, and support the body's return to a state of equilibrium. From fight/flight/freeze to rest and digest. And it's impossible to heal in fight/flight/freeze, so this is an incredibly powerful healing practice.
My journey with T.R.E. began during a particularly stressful period in my life. Despite trying various stress management techniques, I found myself constantly tense and anxious. It wasn't until I stumbled upon T.R.E. that I discovered the profound impact that this could have on my well-being. Initially, the idea of intentionally inducing tremors seemed odd, but I was desperate for relief and decided to give it a try. The results were astonishing—after my first session, I felt a deep sense of relaxation and clarity that I hadn't experienced in years. My clients often say the same.
As I continued to practice T.R.E., the benefits became even more apparent. My chronic pain diminished, my sleep improved, and I felt more grounded in my daily life. This transformation inspired me to learn more about the science behind T.R.E. and eventually pursue certification. I wanted to share this incredible tool with others, to help them release their tension and trauma in a safe and supportive way. Becoming certified in T.R.E. was a pivotal moment for me, allowing me to integrate this practice into my work and witness its positive effects on others.
Today, I am passionate about spreading awareness of T.R.E. and its benefits. Normalizing shaking as a stress-releasing practice can empower individuals to embrace their body's natural healing processes. By sharing my personal story and the science behind T.R.E., I hope to inspire others to explore this practice and experience the profound relief it can bring.
We were designed to heal, and by embracing this natural mechanism, we can navigate our lives with greater resilience and peace.
